New Hampshire music teacher on leave for ‘inappropriate contact’ with a former student

Amherst, N.H. — A music teacher from at Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire has been placed under investigation for alleged “inappropriate contact with a former student.”

In a statement to the community, the superintendent of the school district said the alleged misconduct does not involve any current students.

“The New Hampshire Department of Education notified SAU #39 that Carl Benevides, music teacher at Souhegan High School, has been placed under investigation for alleged inappropriate contact with a former student,” said Superintendent Adam Steel. “In response to the NHDOE investigation, Mr. Benevides has been placed on paid administrative leave. Because this investigation was initiated by the NHDOE, SAU #39 has no further information to share and will await the result of their investigation.”

“While the alleged misconduct does not involve a current student and no determination has been made by the NHDOE about these allegations, SAU #39 recognizes the severity of these allegations and does not tolerate nor condone inappropriate behavior towards students.” said Steel.

Souhegan High School serves students from the towns of Amherst and Mont Vernon, Hew Hampshire.
