Wrong way driver in Saugus crashes into car dealership lot

SAUGUS, Mass. — A Saugus man is under arrest after driving the wrong way on Route 1 and crashing into several parked cars at York Ford on Thursday night.

32-year-old Jonathan Sevoich was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 1 shortly before 9:00 p.m. A motorist on scene said Sevoich entered Route 1 from the Route 99 split then drove his Hyundai Elantra into five parked vehicles at the York Ford dealership lot.

Officers arrived on scene and saw Sevoich still in his vehicle, which had heavy front end damage. After checking on his well being, officers removed him from the Elantra. Sevoich tried to flee on foot from the responding officers, but was eventually restrained and taken into custody. He sustained cuts and abrasions in the struggle.

While on scene, Sevoich showed signs of impairment. During an inventory of his vehicle, officers found drug paraphernalia and a brown powdery substance, suspected to be heroin.

He was transported to a nearby hospital and is facing multiple charges including operating under the influence of drugs (Sevoich’s second offense), possession of a Class A substance, failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and driving down a restricted way.

He is expected to be arraigned today in Lynn District Court.

Sevoich was also wanted on several outstanding warrants.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
