Middlesex County town impacted by cyber attack

PEPPERELL, Mass. — A Middlesex County town is grappling with a cyber attack that has impacted the community’s public safety computer systems on Wednesday.

Pepperell officials say the town’s 911 phone system is operating like normal but are looking to identify the cause of the cyber attack that took some services offline and may have impacted data.

Officials say they were first made aware of the issue early Tuesday morning.

Pepperell Town Hall is still open and able to assist residents with day-to-day municipal needs.

“We immediately engaged our insurance provider and reputable outside cybersecurity agencies to respond to and mitigate this attack,” said Town Administrator Andrew MacLean. “We will prioritize keeping the public informed as we move through this process under the guidance of industry professionals.”

Pepperell police and firefighters can respond to emergency calls as normal.
