MILLIS, Mass. — A Massachusetts high school has canceled its football game this week over “player safety concerns.”
The Millis Mohawks Athletics Department announced in a post on X that Thursday’s Tri-Valley League game versus Bellingham High School won’t go on as scheduled.
“Due to player safety concerns and our current roster situation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this Thursday’s football game vs. Bellingham,” the post read.
In a statement shared Wednesday with Boston 25 News, Millis Superintendent Bob Mullaney confirmed the team currently only has about 15 players available to compete.
“For the safety of our student athletes, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the game,” Mullaney said.
Millis High School is 1-3 through its first four games of the 2026 season. They are next scheduled to play against the Murdock High School Blue Devils on Oct. 16.
Mullaney expects the Mohawks to be ready to compete against Murdock.
“Some players are expected to return from their injuries this week or early next, and we expect to have enough available players for the game,” Mullaney said. “We hope that this one-game pause will allow some of our injured players to heal and that we will be able to finish strong and complete the remainder of our season.”
