PITTSBURG, N.H. — A 36-year-old man is dead following a snowmobile crash on the Corridor Trail 20 southbound in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, Friday, Jan. 28.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department told Boston 25 News the incident started when the snowmobiler, Derric Harper, 36, of Mansfield, was descending downhill before bumping into a section of trail. Harper lost control of his snowmobile before he struck a tree. He was then thrown from his machine and sustained serious injuries.
Before the crash, Harper was traveling with an additional snowmobiler. When the snowmobiler noticed Harper was behind him, he turned around and found Harper lying off the trail beside his damaged machine. A bystander who came across the crash helped assist Harper and his riding companion after immediately calling 9-1-1.
The Pittsburg Fire Department, Pittsburg Police Department, 45th Parallel EMS, and Conservation Officers began. Pittsburg Fire Department responded to the scene.
Harper was sent to the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead. Inexperience is being considered to be the primary factor in this crash. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department confirmed that another Massachusetts man and woman both sustained injuries after crashing their snowmobile into a tree adjacent to the Corridor 5 snowmobile trail in North Stratford, New Hampshire, on Friday, Jan. 28.
