Man dies after trailer falls on him at Hampstead, NH campground, police say

HAMPSTEAD, N.H. — A man has died after a trailer fell on him at a campground in Hampstead on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews responded to the Sunset Lake Campground at 104 Emerson Ave. for a report of a male who had become trapped underneath a fallen camper, police said in a statement.

The victim was extricated after the trailer was lifted off of him using a Hampstead Town Highway front end loader, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was not identified on Sunday pending family notifications.

A preliminary investigation found the man had been working underneath the elevated trailer, when the support system failed and the trailer came down on top of him, police said.

The incident is being investigated by the Hampstead Police Department with assistance from the Hampstead Fire Department and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hampstead is about 42 miles north of Boston and just north of the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border.
