MANCHESTER, N.H. — A call for a child in need of medical attention led to a disturbing discovery for police in Manchester, New Hampshire - two children surrounded by more than 100 needles, and a man acting incoherently.
Officers say they “breached” the door at 141 West Street in Manchester on February 10, because no one answered and they could hear a child inside.
Once inside, they say they found the two children on the bed with a man identified as Raymond Punturieri.
“However he was talking incoherently and was unable to give police any information,” said police in a statement.
“The needles were scattered on the nightstand and floor, and a few were even on the bed where the children were laying. Police also located other drug paraphernalia in the room.” according to the statement.
The children were removed from the apartment and taken to a local hospital. Punturieri’s relationship with the children was not disclosed by the police. They say he is the one who had made the call for help.
Punturieri, 33, was charged with two counts of Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Simple Assault, Criminal Threatening, and Resisting Arrest.
Investigators say Punturieri also had an outstanding warrant. He’s currently being held without bail.
