Police report: Man said he enjoys climbing as a hobby

A man is facing trespassing and disorderly conduct charges after Boston Police say he tried to climb up a pole on the Green Monster at Fenway Park.

It happened early Wednesday morning. Police say they got a call at around 2:20 a.m. for a “breaking and entering in progress at 82 Lansdowne St., Boston,” according to the police report.

The report indicates a man wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants, and white sneakers had exited a car and was “attempting to climb up the metal pole of the Green Monster.”

Police say when they arrived they found a car matching the description they were given by Fenway Park security, with three people inside.

A back seat passenger told police he was the person who had been climbing, according to the police report.

The man told police he did not go into the ballpark, according to the police report. He “stated he climbed onto a table, and then onto an awning,” and that “he enjoys climbing as a hobby,” according to the report.

Police say the awning was about 12 feet from the ground. Park security told police they did not believe the man entered the park.

The man is being summoned to Boston Municipal Court for disorderly conduct and trespassing. His name and age were not released.

Police say Fenway Park has video of the incident which they will be sharing with police.
