Mac or Zappe? Jones active in Patriots practice as QB decision looms ahead of showdown with Bears

FOXBORO, Mass. — As the New England Patriots prepare to host the Chicago Bears at Gillette Stadium on “Monday Night Football,” it still remains unclear whether it will be Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe under center come kickoff.

Video captured by Boston 25′s Adam Liberatore appeared to show Jones moving well in practice Thursday as he took part in drills alongside Zappe, who is 2-1 as a starter in Jones’ absence.

Jones hasn’t played in a game since suffering a high ankle sprain in the final minutes of New England’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens in late September.

Since being inserted into the lineup, Zappe has dazzled, compiling 596 passing yards and four touchdowns with a 111.4 passer rating.

Head coach Bill Belichick has not provided any insight on who will lead the Patriots offensive on Monday, but ESPN’s Mike Reiss did report that Jones expects to be ready for the game.

“Hypotheticals and all that, I’m going to stay away from those,” Belichick said earlier this week.

An announcement on New England’s Week 7 starter won’t likely come until this weekend.
