NEWTON, Mass. — If you catch Newton Police’s new public service announcements advising the public about Marathon Monday rules and road closures, you’ll notice one bright star in the videos: Leo the Comfort Dog.

Leo is in all four of the PSAs, which police filmed “to take a fun approach to get their message out about safety while engaging with the public.” The popular dog joins Lt. Amanda Henrickson and Officer Dave Calderon in the videos.

In one PSA advising the public against public drinking, Leo sits on the sidewalk with a woman who is drinking from what appears to be a beer can in her hand.

“Miss? Hi! I need you to please put the beer away. Alcohol is not permitted on Marathon Monday,” Officer Calderon says while approaching the woman and Leo in the video. “Marathon Monday is a day for everyone to enjoy, because here in Newton the Boston Marathon is for families.”

In another PSA about planned road closures, Leo is sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, and Officer Calderon says to him: “Marathon Monday is one of our busiest days of the year. You’re going to run into a lot of road closures and a lot of parking issues. So for more information please visit our website or visit us on social media.”
