ANDOVER, Mass — The family of a 5-year-old girl who was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in Andover earlier this week has established a scholarship fund.
The Sidney Mae Olson Rainbow Scholarship Fund is at the Andover-based SHED Children’s Campus and will provide a vehicle for those wanting to help the family and the community.
Sidney Olson was crossing a crosswalk at the intersection of Elm and Main Streets on the evening of Tuesday, May 9 when she was hit and killed. Her family says Sidney was on the way to art class.

All donations from the fund will be used for enrollment in the school’s “curiosity-based” education for those who can’t afford it, including pre-K, kindergarten, and school-age programs.
“We’re grateful for the outpouring of love and support for our family and friends after the tragic death of our bright-eyed, five-year-old daughter,” the Olson family said.
The fund was made to keep the little girl’s memory alive at the place that ignited her creative and caring spirit, her family said.
“Sid sprung fearlessly into every day with curiosity, creativity, and love for her community. She wanted nothing more than for people to come together in shared experiences – in nature, in the classroom, anywhere,” her family said in a statement.
Sidney was known for her soft-spoken style of building bonds across groups, and asked for her birthday party to be a rainbow theme because ‘it’s everyone’s favorite colors.’
The family hopes that the fund will provide an opportunity to children who might not be able to have it. It also adds rich diversity to the SHED community for years to come.”
