Inmate hospitalized following stabbing at MCI-Norfolk

NORFOLK — An inmate at MCI-Norfolk is hospitalized after a stabbing in a general population housing unit, authorities say.

Officials say there was an altercation between two inmates around 6:00 p.m. on Friday. They say the inmates had separated as responders arrived on the scene.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Correction, one of the inmates was injured by a homemade weapon. The inmate was sent to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The names of the inmates involved are not being released. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
