BOSTON — A popular Boston pub has poured its last pint.
Hennessy’s Bar, an Irish pub near Faneuil Hall, officially closed its doors Tuesday after 30 years in business.
The owners announced the closure in a message to customers, thanking patrons for their support and memories built over three decades. While no specific reason was given for the shutdown, the bar noted that the recent FIFA World Cup served as a fitting sendoff.
“As we close this chapter, our hearts are overflowing. Thank you to every customer who pulled up a stool, every employee who made this place feel like home, and every friend who walked through our doors over the last three decades. You gave this place its soul,” the pub wrote in a Facebook post. “While the lights may dim and the doors may close, the memories will never fade. They’ll live on in every story that starts with, ‘Remember that night at Hennessy’s...’”
Hennessy’s is part of a group that also operates neighboring establishments Green Dragon Tavern and Dirty Nelly’s. Both businesses will remain open.
The closure comes as Hennessy’s seeks to transfer its liquor license to Bar 23, a new concept described as a smaller version of the well-known Boston steakhouse Grill 23. Bar 23 is expected to open in the Seaport District next year.
For many Bostonians and visitors, Hennessy’s was a staple of the downtown nightlife scene, serving food, drinks, and live entertainment just steps from some of the city’s most popular attractions.
