Firefighters knock down two-alarm blaze in Duxbury

Fire crews had to work quickly and efficiently to knock down a two-alarm fire in Duxbury on Saturday night before it spread to a neighboring house.

Although the abandoned building in which the fire began was reduced to cinders, the responding firefighters were able to work quickly enough they were able to knock down the threatening blaze on Gurnet Road.

According to Duxbury Fire Chief Rob Reardon, the responding fire captain knew immediately the inherent danger posed by the location.

“When the captain got here he quickly struck a second alarm to try and get more resources in,” said Reardon. “This is a tight area and once you get heavy winds in this area it can quickly spread to another house.

The Pembroke, Kingston and Marshfield Fire Departments assisted in the take down.

No injuries were sustained according to Reardon.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
