CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A fatal officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Cambridge.
Around 8 p.m. on Friday, Cambridge police responded to a call on the department’s business line, reporting suspicious individuals in a loading dock/parking lot behind area businesses at the intersection on Temple Street.
Cambridge police responded and allegedly began to verbally engage with the individuals. A preliminary investigation suggests that one of the individuals, man in his 60s, was in his vehicle when police arrived on scene. He allegedly exited his vehicle and pointed a firearm at officers.
Cambridge police allegedly attempted to physically disarm the man, and multiple shots were fired, striking the individual.
A loaded firearm was taken from the man, and medical aid was rendered on scene, however he was pronounced dead.
Several Cambridge police officers were taken to the hospital, but they have since been released.
The shooting is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. Officers were wearing body-worn cameras at the time of the incident, which according to the DA, is being reviewed at this time and interviews are being conducted.
