The death of a 41-year-old man found unresponsive at motel in Rockland Sunday morning is under investigation by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office.

The DA’s office identified the man as Joseph Amaral of Rockland. He was found unresponsive Sunday at the Comfort Inn motel on Hingham Street just before 8 a.m. and transported to the hospital where he later died, Rockland police said in a statement.

The circumstances surrounding Amaral’s death have not been released, and the DA’s office said his cause of death would be determined by the State medical examiner.

Sources have told Boston 25 News that Amaral was employed by Hi-Way Safety Systems, of Rockland. His death occurred the same morning another employee of the same company, 31-year-old Gregory Goodsell, of Marshfield, is alleged to have killed a 13-year-old girl in a crash in Pembroke. Goodsell is alleged to have told police he was coming from a company Christmas party at his boss’s home and had been drinking heavily when he crashed into a Subaru, critically injuring two others and killing 13-year-old Claire Zisserson. He is facing numerous charges, including manslaughter OUI and is being held without bail.

An attorney for Hi-Way Safety confirmed Monday night that the company is looking into the death of an employee at a Rockland motel.
