MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. — Students in Middleborough are returning to school after their building was vandalized over the weekend. Police say hateful words and symbols were spray painted on the high school Saturday night.
In a Facebook post, the principal said there was even a direct threat made against him, spray-painted outside the high school. The graffiti has been covered up for now with paper, but an outside cleaning company will be here today to remove the spray paint.
Police do have surveillance video of the suspects. They say two people dressed in black spray-painted hateful language and images, including a swastika on the high school Saturday night. The facilities director discovered the vandalism Sunday and immediately notified school administration. Police began their investigation and the school’s principal notified the community on Facebook. He said this was incredibly disturbing and upsetting, and parents we spoke with felt the same.
“I think it’s disgusting it’s horrible, it’s sad, very sad,” said Sarah Halliwell, a parent of a Middleborough High School Student.
“That sort of prejudice and hatred has sort of always been under the surface but just within the past five years or so has really like it’s sort have become normalized,” said Emily Reinl of Middleborough.
Police are looking to talk to anyone who has any information or knows who vandalized the school.
