Clinton man arrested, charged in connection with hit and run in Chelmsford

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — Chelmsford police arrested and charged a Clinton man in connection with a serious crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

According to police, the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. in a parking lot on 228 Billerica Road, where they were dispatched for reports of a person struck.

Once on the scene, first responders found a woman suffering serious injuries. She was transported to Lowell General Hospital, then airflighted to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. A spokesperson with the department says the victim suffered serious injuries.

The vehicle that struck the victim had fled the scene. An investigation determined that 37-year-old Steve Mullen was the driver. He was later found in Lowell and taken into custody.

Mullen was charged with the following:

  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Person 60 or Over
  • Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash
  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash
  • Reckless Operation
  • Speeding
  • Failure to Grant Right of Way
  • Stop Sign Violation

Mullen will be arraigned tomorrow in Lowell District Court.
