Celtics forward Grant Williams suspended one game for making contact with ref after foul

Grant Williams was suspended by the NBA league office Wednesday for his actions after picking up a foul during the Celtics’ Monday night loss to the Chicago Bulls.

At the nine-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Williams tried to take a charge against Chicago’s Nikola Vucevic. After being booked for a blocking foul, Willaims jumped and started to run to the sideline, appearing to make incidental contact with official Cheryl Flores.

Williams was assessed a technical foul and ejection.

Williams finished the night with three rebounds and shot 0-of-3 from the field in 18 minutes. The 23-year-old has averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds so far this season, his fourth with the Celtics.

The Celtics’ 120-102 loss was the team’s first of the season.

Williams’ suspension will be served during the team’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.
