BOSTON — The Boston University Bridge was temporarily closed to traffic on Sunday as crews responded to a large fire that occurred at a homeless encampment near the bridge, state police said.
The Red Cross responded to assist 10 people at the scene. No injuries were reported.
A thick plume of black smoke could be seen in the sky above the bridge during the fire. Crews cleared the scene around 2:30 p.m., fire officials said in a social media post.
According to fire officials, there was an issue with propane tanks at the location.
Multiple fire crews from Cambridge and Boston responded.
The bridge was temporarily closed as crews worked to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
