Grinch-clad suspect arrested in West Bridgewater after driving stolen vehicle

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Police on Sunday arrested a Grinch-clad suspect in West Bridgewater and charged him with driving a stolen vehicle.

Elvis Andrade, 32, of Brockton was arrested around 1:53 a.m. after officers ran the license plate of the stolen vehicle.

Officers witnessed the vehicle pick up another man who was walking in the area. That’s when police ordered the vehicle to stop near 31 South Main St.

Officers ran the vehicle’s VIN, which came back as a match for a vehicle stolen in Stoughton on Dec. 2.

The driver, later identified as Andrade, repeatedly refused to tell police his name, but police were able to identify him.

Investigators found a screwdriver and several items and paperwork in various people’s names, including passports, debit and credit cards, and IDs.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Andrade, who had five active warrants for motor vehicle break-ins, car thefts, and credit card fraud, police said.

Andrade is being charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possessing a burglarious instrument, receiving stolen property under $1,200, motor vehicle driver refusing to identify self, driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license, number plate violation to conceal identity, and refusing to identify self.

Andrade was expected to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court.
