Brighton burrito restaurant shut down for second time in two months for slew of health violations

BRIGHTON — A Brighton burrito restaurant was shut down for the second time in less than two months for a slew of health violations.

A health inspector visiting Los Amigos Taqueria at 366 Washington St. in Brighton last Friday reported ingredients being kept at incorrect storing temperatures, stained service boards and dishes not being sanitized after washes. Several customers reported illnesses after eating food from the burrito joint, according to an ISD report on the “Mayor’s Food Court” page.

Bags of shrimp were found in the same box as fish fillet and a cup without a handle was used in a sugar bin possibly leading to human contamination, the report stays.

Last month, inspectors shut down the eatery after linking a Salmonella outbreak to the unsanitary working conditions in the restaurant. A May inspection of the restaurant revealed “visible soils and a mold-like substance” in the walls and ceiling.

Los Amigos’ second Boston location, 1741 Centre Street in West Roxbury, also had its license to operate suspended following an inspection in May.

This location had no “verifiable evidence of illness policy training,” no one was monitoring food temperatures for cooking, spatulas were being stored in stagnant water, onions and salsa verde were stored on the floor, and there were no thermometers in cold holding units in front and at grill drawers, according to inspectors. The city said that “multiple rodent droppings” were also found on pineapple cans, bags of pinto beans, single-use beverage holders, and storage tables.

Los Amigos also has locations in Brookline, Newton, and Somerville.
