An absolutely horrific freak accident happened at a barbershop on Beacon Hill.

A barber cutting his client’s hair somehow suddenly fell or slipped and stabbed himself right in the chest. In the surveillance video from the barbershop, you can see Sarah Santiago run over.

“That’s when I heard him say I think I stabbed myself and that’s when I ran over,” said Santiago.

Twenty-nine-year-old Stephen Silva fell and landed right on his scissors while cutting his client’s hair.

“He had his sheers palmed so they face this way so when he fell that’s why they were facing inwards instead of facing outwards,” said Santiago.

Doctors told the barbershop if Santiago didn’t cut open Silva’s shirt and apply direct pressure, he would not have survived.

Silva underwent heart surgery because the sheers pierced his chest cavity so deeply.

Silva is recovering at Mass General Hospital.

“The trauma surgeon called one of the managers in here because he is client and he said Steve is lucky. He is so lucky to be alive right now,” said Santiago.

Silva’s clients have been hearing the story in disbelief. Even the police told the business they would not have believed what happened if it was not caught on video. The barbershop set up a GoFundMe to help him with medical bills and lost pay.

“He was one of the main caretakers in the family so he helped take care of them. He worked 6 days a week,” said Santiago.
