BOSTON — Sullivan’s Castle Island, one of Boston’s most beloved seasonal restaurants, has closed its outdoor seating area amid an uptick in aggressive seagulls terrorizing diners.

Because the eatery is within close proximity to the water, there is an abundance of gulls lurking in the area. In recent weeks, the birds have been divebombing customers and snatching up food.

There are signs posted outside Sullivan’s that read, “Tables Closed Please Cover Your Food” and “Beware Seagulls.”

Sullivan’s does have a policy of remaking orders free of charge if a seagull steals a customer’s food, but it’s happening too often of late, prompting the restaurant to take action.

Video taken outside the restaurant showed the seating areas roped off with yellow caution tape and orange cones on top of tables.

It’s not clear if the eatery has plans to reopen the seating area in the near future.
