READING, Mass. — A 79-year-old woman was struck and seriously injured in a pedestrian crash on Haverhill Street in Reading on Saturday afternoon, police said.
At approximately 2 p.m., officers responded to the area of 244 Haverhill St. for a report of a woman struck by a motor vehicle, Reading Police Chief David Clark said in a statement.
When officers arrived, they found a 79-year-old woman who had been struck and was suffering from serious injuries.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington. Her condition was not known on Saturday.
The 19-year-old driver of a Nissan Rogue, who allegedly struck the woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with police, Clark said.
Reading Police are investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Haverhill Street will remain closed from Timberneck Drive to Wakefield Street while investigators are still at the scene, police said.
