TEWKSBURY, Mass. — Four parents have been suspended and several players are expected to be suspended after a fight at a youth hockey game in Tewksbury last weekend.
Police were called to the Breakaway Ice Center on Carter Street in Tewksbury around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 for reports of a fight. When they got there, officers learned a fight broke out between players at the end of an 18U league game between teams from Tewksbury and Raynham.
The fight reportedly escalated and parents got involved.
One player suffered a cut to the face but no one needed to be transported via ambulance.
Boston 25 News spoke with Kevin Kavanagh, the executive director of Mass Hockey, who told us he expects suspensions from both teams, which included players 16-17 years old. He says it was the last game of the season for both teams so any suspensions could roll over into next season.
The four parents suspended have up to 10 days to respond. He says there would then be a Zoom meeting with the disciplinary committee.
“It’s an unfortunate situation, but there are consequences and these actions will not be tolerated,” he said.
Tewksbury police are investigating.
