28-year-old man turns himself in after critically injuring pedestrian in Charlestown, police say

BOSTON — A man has turned himself in after allegedly striking a pedestrian with his car in Charlestown.

The crash left the victim with serious injuries.

Police said 28-year-old Luis Serrano of Roxbury surrendered on a warrant issued out of Charlestown District Court charging him with assault to kill.

Serrano was also issued citations for reckless operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in personal injury. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.

According to authorities, around 7:05 p.m. Thursday, August 20, police responded to 161 Bunker Hill Street in Charlestown for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had crashed through a fence and struck a person. The driver had fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

During the investigation, police learned the victim and suspect had been involved in an argument before the crash.

Serrano is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
