BOSTON — As 25 Investigates first reported Tuesday, the man accused of shooting three Boston police officers is 37-year-old Dashaun Wright.
Wright was convicted of assault with intent to murder in Suffolk County in March of 2004.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, he was only released in July, from MCI- Cedar Junction.
It’s a common practice when one state feels they can’t handle or accommodate someone who’s incarcerated.

25 Investigates uncovered a booking Ely state prison in Nevada. On Wednesday, Nevada prison officials told us while he was housed there, Wright was never a Nevada prisoner. Rather, he was being held in Nevada as part of interstate compact, a so-called ‘safe keeper agreement.’
A law enforcement source tells anchor and investigative reporter Kerry Kavanaugh, Wright was so violent behind bars and caused so many problems, they sent him to a facility in Nevada where he wouldn’t have any known affiliations.
25 Investigates asked the Massachusetts Department of Corrections when he was sent to Nevada and when he was returned. A spokesperson told they couldn’t release that information due to CORI rules.
