BOSTON — The Massachusetts State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed two people and left another injured, Saturday.
The crash happened on I-93 northbound in Boston, around 10 p.m., according to officials.
State police say that an SUV, which is a rideshare vehicle, was rear-ended by a tow truck. Both passengers in the back of the SUV were killed. The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries, and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to officials.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV slowed down prior to being struck by the tow truck, according to MSP.
The two people killed in the crash have been identified by authorities as Delanie Fekert, age 25, of Floral Park, N.Y., and Urushi Madani, age 25, of North Andover.
The driver of ride-share SUV has only been identified as a 53-year-old Revere man.
The driver of the tow truck, a female from Salem, Mass., was not injured according to officials.
A third vehicle, a sedan, was also involved in the crash. State police say that the sedan was driving behind the tow truck and struck it at an angle. The driver of the sedan, a woman from Manchester, N.H., was not injured according to state police.
The crash caused lane closures on I-93NB until just before 2 a.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
