15-year-old boy dies after being pulled from Dunstable pond, police say

DUNSTABLE, Mass. — A 15-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a local pond where he had been swimming, Dunstable Police said Friday.

Crews found the boy in approximately 13 feet of water in the Dunstable Rural Land Trust, in the area of Main Street at approximately 6 p.m. Friday. Crews searched for nearly 2 hours for the teen.

The boy was sent to a New Hampshire hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He was reportedly swimming with friends in the pond when he became distressed and his friends lost sight of him in the water, Dunstable Police Chief James Dow said in a statement.

Dunstable Police and Fire officials and a dive team began searching for the boy at around 4:15 p.m. Friday, after receiving a report of a swimmer in distress at the pond.

The boy’s name was not released.
