14 people displaced following early morning fire in Mattapan

BOSTON — Fourteen people were displaced following an early-morning fire on Saturday in Mattapan.

According to Boston Fire, crews were called to a fire in a large multi-family building on Hazelton St around 3:45 a.m.

Fire crews say upon arrival the fire traveled throughout the building to the roof. The fire was extinguished and crews cleared the scene around 5:30 a.m.

9 adults and 5 children were displaced and there are no injuries to report.

Fire officials say damages are estimated at around $750,000.

Cold 20-degree temps made it difficult to extinguish the fire but the Boston Sparks Association was on the scene to hydrate firefighters and spread rock salt.
