12-year-old girl breaks leg after being struck by vehicle in Dorchester

BOSTON — A 12-year-old girl has broken her leg after being struck by a vehicle in Dorchester.

According to police, on Saturday, August 19 around 5 p.m. officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck in the area of 895 Blue Hill Ave in Dorchester.

Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle pulled to the side of the road with damage to its front right headlight and fender. Officers also saw a 12-year-old girl laying on the sidewalk with a broken leg.

The 12-year-old was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the operator of the vehicle said a group of about seven kids were crossing the street and by the time he saw them he struck the 12-year-old girl with his car.

Officers also spoke with witnesses who stated the same and said the driver was speeding.

Another child was also transported to receive a psych evaluation due to the traumatic event. It was later discovered that this child witnessed the collision and had a panic attack, police say.

The driver was cited for speeding and failure to yield.
