BOSTON — Boston Police recovered three illegal firearms after a 12-year-old called 911 to report an unsecured gun inside a Roxbury home, police said.
A 34-year-old man from Roxbury was subsequently charged with unlawful possession and improper storage of a firearm. The suspect, who was not identified, is expected to face arraignment in Roxbury District Court.
Police responded to the call around 2:30 p.m. Friday after the child called police reporting an unsecured firearm under a couch seat cushion.
When officers arrived, the child directed them to the gun, and they saw a second firearm protruding from a drawer of a nightstand in another room.
Officers then froze the scene pending the issuance of a search warrant and notified the Massachusetts Department of Children and Family, police said.
Police later executed a search warrant and seized the two guns plus a third gun found inside a bedroom closet.
The weapons seized were a loaded 9mm Taurus PT 11g2 handgun with an obliterated serial number, a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson M&P Shield handgun with an obliterated serial number and a loaded .22 LR caliber Phoenix Arms HP 22 handgun.
Officers also recovered several rounds of various caliber ammunition and numerous prescription pills in plastic bags along with a digital scale.
Additional charges are expected to be filed against the male suspect, police said.
