1 person killed, another rescued in Webster house fire

WEBSTER, Mass. — One person is dead and another had to be rescued off the roof after flames ripped through a home in Webster. The state fire marshal’s office said that the residents in the basement and on the first floor were fortunate to get out safely.

The fire started around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at a home on High Street.

The fire chief said that a lot of obstacles made it impossible for firefighters to go into the home to knock down the fire.

Police and neighbors worked together to help a woman who was trapped on the roof when they arrived.

Firefighters say those flames were so intense they damaged the home next door. The chief says the home is a total loss.

The fire marshal’s office and state police are investigating how it started.

The Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced. The resident who died is yet to be identified.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
