AYER, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police arrested a local police officer Monday and charged him with kidnapping and rape.

Chicopee police Chief William Jebb said state police notified him Sunday that one of his officers was being investigated for an incident that occurred early Saturday morning in Ayer.

He was taken to Worcester County to be booked.

Around 7 p.m. Monday, state police went to the Chicopee Police Department armed with a warrant for two counts of rape, kidnapping and assault and battery, and arrested Officer Corey Fournier.

The 27-year-old has been a patrol officer for three-and-a-half years.

State police said Fournier was known by the victim in the incident.

Jebb said he immediately placed Fournier on unpaid administrative leave and confiscated his department equipment, including his duty weapon, badge, ID and personal firearms.

No other information was released.
