WELLESLEY, Mass. — In the Bahamas, Hurricane Dorian has killed at least five people, destroyed buildings and flooded street after street. One local family has loved ones in the Bahamas right now and are still waiting to hear from their loved ones.

One woman told Boston 25 News that she has not been able to eat or sleep since Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas. Susan Cove of Wellesley has been glued to her phone and the TV hoping to hear her father and other family members' voices.

"Not everyone is accounted for at this moment," Cove said, painfully. "Crying all yesterday."

Cove has not heard from her family since Dorian hit the Bahamas.

"My father is there with his wife, his wife's son – Max, who is amazing – my brother, his wife and their two daughters," she said.

That's just to name a few family members who are in the port of Monaco and in Abaco, which is a small island in the Bahamas. Cove's father, 88-year-old Norman Cove, is a practicing dentist there.

"It is so difficult, so worrying when you're family, and you can't get in touch with them," she said.

Forecasters are saying Hurricane Dorian is one of the worst ever.

On Sunday, reports of winds from Dorian reached up to 185 miles per hour. At least five people died in the hurricane, and thousands of homes have been destroyed.

Cove tells Boston 25 News that she is part of several Facebook groups and forums with people she went to high school with in the Bahamas, but still no word from her immediate family.

What worries Cove the most, she tells us, is that many Bahamians will stay in their homes during hurricanes.
