Local bakery employee rewarded for her honesty with nearly $2,500 in cash

HINGHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A local bakery employee who turned in an envelope of cash over a year ago was rewarded for her honesty on Friday when police let her keep the money.

On Feb. 21, 2014, a then 20-year-old Kathleen Camillieri found a envelope filled with $2,480 in cash and immediately turned it over to her manager at White's Bakery. When the customer didn't return for the money, the envelope was handed over to the police in the hopes that they could help find its rightful owner.

The police shared a video of the customer inside the bakery on social media and with media outlets, but nobody came forward to claim the cash.

A year later, the unclaimed money was delivered to Camillieri, a full time student in Rhode Island studying to be a pastry chef who works at the Hingham Bakery on weekends.

"Kathleen did the right thing of course, but in our business we don't usually see people doing what's right," Hingham Police said. "We are proud to have meet her and wish her all the best."
