BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Gerry Leone is leaving his post as Middlesex district attorney in April to join the international law firm Nixon Peabody LLP.
Leone announced on Tuesday that he will become partner in the firm's government investigations and white collar defense practice beginning on April 29. There is currently no word on who will serve as district attorney after Leone's departure.
The district attorney announced his plan join the firm just one week after Nixon Peabody announced former Sen. Scott Brown joined their team as counsel in the firm's Boston office.
"For the last 30 years, the last three Middlesex district attorneys have not run for reelection to a third term as Middlesex district attorney. Like my predecessors, I too will not run for reelection to a third term as Middlesex district attorney in 2014," Leone stated.
Leone announced that he would not seek re-election in 2014 to his staff at an office-wide annual awards and recognition ceremony in January.
First elected in 2006, Leone has earned hundreds of convictions. Two of his most high-profile prosecutions include "Shoe Bomber" Richard Reid and British nanny Louise Woodward, who was convicted of killing an eight-month-old in her care.
After considering a run for U.S. Senate in the upcoming special election, Leone said that he was remaining firm in his decision to leave electoral politics.
