BOSTON — Residents of a multi-family house in Dorchester are in limbo after learning the potential hazards in their home when rain caused part of the ceiling to collapse.
Lisa Henry said her fiancé was hit by the falling debris.
“I seen he was on the floor I said what happened he said ‘this fell on my head,’” she told Boston 25 News reporter Drew Karedes.
Henry said says she’s been repeatedly pleading with her landlord to fix the dangers putting her and other tenants at risk, but as it turns out that landlord may not be responsible.
“This is just insane nobody should have to live like this,” she said.
It’s not just the crumbling ceiling Henry said she’s worried about. She claims they haven’t had hot water or gas for months.
After city inspectors took a look, Henry showed the problem to Boston 25 News. That’s when the landlord arrived to confront her.
“They looking for money but they not paying me,” the landlord said.
When asked about the on-going complaints and the ceiling collapse, the landlord denied everything. He also claimed it wasn’t his responsibility because the home is being foreclosed on.
“It should’ve never been rented it should be condemned,” Henry said.
City inspectors say the landlord did provide paperwork showing that a bank recently took possession of the property which is why they left without writing him up for anything.
Henry said she can’t afford to move and doesn’t know what she’s going to do. She did call her fiancé at the hospital and says he has a head injury but is going to be ok.
