Judge cancels Alemany murder trial for day after accused killer says he's ill

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Edwin Alemany's trial came to a halt Wednesday after the defendant complained of being ill.

Alemany is being tried in connection with the murder of Amy Lord, but the trial came to a full stop Wednesday after the accused killer complained of chest pain, nausea and dizziness in court.

His defense attorney Jeff Denner, said, "He says he can't concentrate. He feels like throwing up. He's quite ill."

Alemany was resting his head on a table in the courtroom and fanning himself.

Boston EMS Brian Bailey said, "He's got a slight temperature. His blood pressure was elevated as well as his heart rate."

The judge dismissed the jury for the day, saying Alemany appeared to be too sick to participate in his own defense.

This comes after a gut-wrenching day of testimony Tuesday from Amy Lord's mother Cindy and graphic video of the crime scene at Stony Brook Reservation where Amy's body lay naked and wounded.

Later Wednesday afternoon lawyers had planned to argue whether statements Alemany allegedly made to police after his arrest in the case can be used in this trial, but that was also postponed.

Alemany can choose to waive his right to appear Thursday if he's still feeling ill. For now, the jury is still expected to be in court for the trial by 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
