John Hancock to begin offering life insurance for some living with HIV

BOSTON — People living with HIV may now be able to get life insurance through John Hancock.

The company announced Friday it will begin offering term and permanent life insurance coverage to applicants with HIV who meet certain criteria.

Policies will be avilable to applicants aged 30-65 for face amounts up to $2 million. But that requires "a favoriable and stable clinical course, strict adherance and response to antiretrovrial therapy and the absence of significant immunosupression or co-morbid conditions.

"In this case, advancements in treatment have made it possible for us to make this important financial product available to even more people."

Manulife, the Canadian parent company to John Hancock, will also be offering life insurance to people living with HIV. It's the first Canadian company to do so.
