IPSWICH, Mass. — The chief of the Ipswich Fire Department is on paid leave after being accused of domestic violence twice in one week.
Chief Gregory Gagnon was initially arrested after police received a report of an assault on a woman at his home in Dracut on Thursday. He was originally released on his own recognizance.

The next day investigators with the District Attorney’s Office and Dracut police learned of another incident involving Gagnon and the same woman where he was accused of attempting to strangle her.
He was arrested again and is currently being held in jail without bail until his arraignment in court on Monday.
A lieutenant within the Ipswich Fire Department will serve as acting chief for the time being.
