WEYMOUTH, Mass. - The doors at a Weymouth kennel will remain closed pending a police investigation after a dog died while under the facility's care.

Weymouth Animal Control responded to K-9 Daycare on Tuesday, May 29, for a report of a deceased dog in a kennel.

The following week, on June 4, the kennel's license to operate was suspended pending the investigation into the incident.

Investigators said the discovery of the dog's death led local inspectors with the board of health and animal control to find multiple violations of the Weymouth Kennel Regulations.

Violations include failure to provide water, failure to provide proper crate and failure to produce records.

Police said the facts and circumstances surrounding the dog's death are currently under investigation.

“They definitely had plenty of dogs, I’ve seen tons of dogs back there," said Matt Caraco, who works at a neighboring business."Knowing what they did to a dog I would never let my dog be there."

The facility has been defending it's reputation, addressing the forced closure in a statement through a Facebook post on their page, saying:

"We have been in business for over 7 years and have built this business because of our love for dogs. In addition to cooperating with the town of Weymouth we are also conducting our own investigation so we can understand this tragic loss so as to prevent this from ever happening again."

Boston 25 News has learned this is not the first time a dog has died at the facility.

The owner of a dog named Ringo says he was devastated in February 2016 when he says another dog's jaw got stuck on Ringo's collar at the K-9 Daycare, choking Ringo to death.

Keith Ricci says he is not surprised to hear about another tragedy surrounding the kennel, saying:

"For a business whose sole purpose is dog supervision, there was no one supervising my dog while he was being killed. The doctor who performed the necropsy found the results "very concerning" and contacted MSPCA Law Enforcement to further investigate K-9 Daycare."

The investigation is ongoing.
