BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Sixteen Shih Tzus and four Siamese Cats were rescued on Monday from a Marlborough home the MSPCA-Angell described as "cramped and unsuitable."
Six of the dogs are adults, ranging in age from one to five years. The 10 Shih Tzu puppies range in age from five to 12 weeks old. Two of Siamese cats are one year old, and two are four-month-old kittens.
No charges were filed against the owner of the animals, whose name is not being released. Authorities say the pets were voluntarily surrounded.
All twenty animals have been transported to the Jamaica Plain shelter and have begun veterinary and behavior exams. Some of the puppies have been placed in foster homes until they reach eight weeks of age and are eligible for adoption, but the rest of the animals will become available for adoption next week.
The future looks bright for the animals, according to adoption center manager Alyssa Krieger.
"The animals are generally in fine shape," Krieger said in a statement. "Many of them are dirty; some of the dogs are matted; and, of course, their home environment was less than ideal. But we're confident we can place all of them for adoption in the next few weeks."
