Icelandair diverts aircraft to Boston on inaugural flight

BOSTON — A group of passengers who were expecting to wake up in Iceland are actually stuck in Boston Wednesday morning.

The inaugural flight on Icelandair from Philadelphia to Iceland was diverted to Boston overnight because of a mechanical problem with the aircraft.

The flight was over Canada when the plane turned around and landed at Logan, according to a map from FlightAware.com.

Philadelphia’s mayor, along with a reporter from Philly Magazine, were onboard the plane when the incident occurred.

The reporter said technicians and police boarded the plane when it landed at Logan Airport.

Officials with Icelandair said the plane will leave Boston at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
