Hyannis cemetery vandalism investigated as hate crime

HYANNIS, Mass. — Crude graffiti in a Hyannis Cemetery has Barnstable police investigating a hate crime, according to HyannisNews.com.

Police were in Oak Grove Cemetery photographing and collecting evidence Monday morning where a number of gravestones and monuments were vandalized.

Some headstones had been knocked off their bases, while spray paint had been used to scrawl at least one anti-Semitic message.

About a dozen or more tombstones were either kicked over or otherwise vandalized, while some of the graffiti was directed at police officers.

Some of the graffiti was fresh Monday morning, while other is part of an ongoing investigation.
