HINGHAM, Mass. — A local hero returned home to Hingham Monday night, and his community was waiting to honor him.

Army specialist Curtis Leonard touched down at Logan Airport around 7 p.m. and was greeted with hugs from family members after nearly a year spent in Iraq.

Town officials asked residents to line the streets as he got back into Hingham to show their support for Curtis’ duty.

His father told FOX25 Curtis has been working for the Army in Iraq for nearly a year on a team monitoring hostile actions in the country.

“Very glad to have him home, it's been a long time. He did his share glad to have him back,” Curtis’ father Bill Leonard said.

Hingham police escorted Leonard and his family back through town to applause from the waiting crowds.

“It's relieving, especially for him too/cause it's been a lot on him and he's excited to move on to the next chapter of his life,” Curtis’ cousin Mike Doherty said.

Leonard's father said his son is mostly just looking forward to being reunited with his family and ordering a pizza.

After four years in the Army this was the last time Curtis will be deployed.
