FALL RIVER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) - The fiancee of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez has testified in his murder trial that he was intoxicated in the hours before the killing of her sister's boyfriend.
Shayanna Jenkins also told jurors Friday that she found a handgun in a kitchen junk drawer before the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd.
Jenkins avoided looking at Hernandez as she testified. As she left the stand for a break, she mouthed something to him. Her face looked ashen.
Jenkins was granted immunity to testify, which meant she could face jail time if she did not take the stand.
Among those in the gallery was Jenkins' younger sister, Shaneah. She was sitting with Lloyd's family. Jenkins described her relationship with Shaneah relationship as estranged.
She also testified that after she dropped Hernandez off at a police station to be questioned over the slaying of her sister's boyfriend, he told her to meet one of his co-defendants and give him money.
Jenkins says Hernandez told her to meet Ernest Wallace after she dropped him off. Wallace and a third man, Carlos Ortiz, have pleaded not guilty in the killing and will be tried later.
Jenkins then drove to Rhode Island and gave Wallace $500, the maximum she could withdraw from an ATM.
She said he told her everything would be OK, and she told him to "be safe."
