Slow Sunday at Logan Airport during the usual post-Thanksgiving rush

BOSTON — While the Sunday after Thanksgiving is typically one of the busiest air travel days of the year, it was a much different story at Logan Airport this year.

The baggage claim remained mostly empty, while waves of passengers from arriving flights came in and out only every so often.

“Easiest Thanksgiving travel I’ve done in a long time!” said Paula Bresnick, a traveler who flew into Logan on Sunday from Atlanta. “There was hardly anybody on the planes.”

Despite CDC warnings urging people not to travel for the holiday, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving broke records. The TSA reported that it was the busiest air travel day since the pandemic started.

Still, the lack of post-holiday rush was a silver lining for some.

“It was completely empty,” said Ms. Brkic, a passenger returning home from Los Angeles. “We had 30 passengers all the way from LAX to Boston, so nobody in the row in front of us, nobody in the row behind us. It was extremely comfortable.”

People who continue to fly home from out-of-state into Massachusetts must fill out a travel form and either quarantine for 14 days or receive a negative COVID-19 test.

“I’ll quarantine and get tested,” Bresnick told Boston 25 News.

Those who do not comply are subject to a fine of $500 per day.
