ALLSTON, Mass. — Long lines are expected at COVID-19 testing sites today after Friday’s storm forced many to close down for the day. A line started forming early at the testing site at the West End Boys & Girls Club in Allston on Monday.

“I came here on Saturday to get a test, but I didn’t time it very well. The line was like 500 feet,” said Sam Fuller of Medford. “I waited until today to try to get here as early as I could, apparently not early enough, but the line is shorter today.”

“I haven’t been able to find many in stores,” said Fuller. “Luckily, I have a friend who works in the early education industry, and she had a couple of at-home tests, so I took an at-home test originally, and that’s where I originally found out I was positive five days ago. But yeah, it’s hard to find tests.”

While the line started long, it moved quickly once the testing site opened at 6:30 a.m. This comes as COVID-19 cases continue to climb, especially in Boston, which now has a 32% positivity rate (up from 22% the week prior).

As COVID-19 tests continue to be extremely hard to come by, relief from the federal government could be coming soon. President Joe Biden announced every American would be receiving a free at-home rapid test in January, and those tests could start heading out to homes within the next week or so.
